| The
Great Auckland Refit 2002
13th
April 2002
Three
months have been set aside from Soren Larsen's sailing
schedule to tackle planned maintenance and another stage
of the ship's restoration process. The Aft end below
decks is to be refurbished - i.e. the navigation area,
Master's, Mate's and Engineer's cabin are being totally
rebuilt.
A
huge awning structure now covers the ship to totally weather
proof the ship. The aft deck on the port side has
been taken up and the waterways taken out. Marti
is leading the team as bolts are driven out and examined.
This older part of the deck is being replaced.
While
we are at the engine is getting a major facelift, as are
the heads and various parts of the saloon. More details
of the work and further pictures will follow..
