Great Auckland Refit 2002
Three
months have been set aside from Soren Larsen's sailing
schedule to tackle planned maintenance and another stage
of the ship's restoration process. The Aft end below
decks is to be refurbished - i.e. the navigation area,
Master's, Mate's and Engineer's cabin are being totally
rebuilt.
3rd
May 2002 - Things are taking
shape down aft as Dean and Andrew start nailing up the
new kauri cabin bulkheads. On deck graving pieces and
small repairs are being put in before the new waterways
and deckplanks go on. A stainless steel beam now reinforces
the aft cabin floor. The mainmast chainplates have gone
off the the galvanisers and so has the deckhouse reinforcing
pipe. The heads have been gutted out and are waiting to
be rebuilt. Yes there is a lot going on...
