CREW POSITIONS - May 2010
The Soren Larsen has now filled the position for 2nd Mate for this season until Nov.
We still require a specialist shipwright for a permanent role for the ongoing restoration and maintenance of the vessel. Applicants must have experience in working on wooden hulled Baltic Traders (double framed oak construction with iron fastenings) and have practical knowledge of these hulls and experience of traditional scarfing and fitting of heavy timbers to hull and hull sheathing, inner ceiling planks and load bearing knees.
Experience of timber spar making and understanding of traditional square rig rigging methods is also sought. Decktime and sailing experience of this type of brigantine or similar traditional rig required.
Apply to Steve Randall at escape@sorenlarsen.co.nz with certs and refs.
We are always keen to hear from prospective Captains, Mates,
engineers, carpenters, cooks, pursers and deckhands that are keen to be considered for positions in a future Soren crew.

The ship sails with up to a crew of 11-13.
1st and 2nd Mate, Engineer, Bosun, Purser, 2 cooks and deckhands.
Obviously shipwrighting, marine engineering experience, caulking and rigging are key skills for crew on a traditional wooden vessel, with a demanding maintenance schedule such as Soren Larsen.
But the ship also requires those with good people skills and a positive attitude.
It should be noted that the rewards involved in being crew are not entirely financial, but we offer a unique learning experience being a part of the team that keeps this iconic tallship sailing.
If you are keen to have your name added to our crew files then contact us.
